Shopping
Whether you’re window shopping or treating yourself to a full-blown spree, the phrase "Shop till you Drop" has never been truer than in Jersey City! The city is home to two malls, the Newport Centre Mall and the Hudson Mall on Rt. 440. There are ten major shopping districts scattered throughout the city.
- Central Avenue
- Danforth Avenue/Old Bergen Road
- Five Corners
- Journal Square
- Martin Luther King Drive, Monticello Avenue, And Ocean Avenue ("The Hub")
- McGinley Square
- Newark Avenue/Downtown
- Newport Mall
- Route 440/Hudson Mall
- Westside Avenue
From Journal Square to Downtown, the city has its fine share of contemporary boutiques and specialty stores. And many of our shopping areas, including both malls, are in the city’s Urban Enterprise Zone, which means shoppers pay a reduced sales tax of 3.5 percent.
